Professor Pallav Shah

Biography
Professor Pallav Shah is currently Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College, London, He is a Senior Consultant Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He qualified in Medicine at Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London and trained in pulmonology at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Professor Shah is active in both the research and the development of new treatments. He has developed several novel therapies; which include endobronchial valves, endobronchial coils, Vaopr and Aeriseal sealant for emphysema, lung denervation for COPD, cryospray and pulsed electrical field therapy for chronic bronchitis, and bronchial thermoplasty for asthma. He is currently developing robotic guided ablation of lung tumours.
He has over 300 papers and several books – including his contribution as sectional editor of the thoracic section of Grays Anatomy (39th & 40th editions) and as sectional editor for respiratory section of the Oxford textbook of Medicine (6th edition). He also the author of an Atlas of Flexible Bronchoscopy and chief editor of Essentials of Clinical Pulmonology. He is a fellow of the European Respiratory
Society. He thinks of himself as “Jack of All Trades & Master of None”.
Dr Arjun Nair

Dr Nair was awarded the Thoracic Imaging Fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital between 2011 and 2013, during which time he completed his MD. He is the author/co-author of several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters on cardiothoracic imaging. Dr Nair is currently an Advisory Editor to three scientific journals, namely European Radiology, Clinical Radiology, and the British Journal of Radiology.

Biography
Dr Kyle Hogarth, MD, FCCP, is a Professor of Medicine in the Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The University of Chicago. He is the Director of Bronchoscopy and is heavily involved in the field of advanced bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonary with numerous publications. He co-directs the lung cancer screening program and established the nodule clinic at the University.
Dr Hogarth received his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at The University of Chicago. He has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Chest, ERJ and many other journals. He previously served on the editorial board of CHEST, where he was
the section editor for the podcast section and giants in chest medicine series. He has won numerous clinical awards and teaching awards from his University and International Societies.
Professor Sanjay Popat
Consultant Medical Oncologist

Biography
Professor Popat has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. He is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden, Professor of Thoracic Oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research and is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of lung cancer, mesothelioma and cancers of the thymus (thymoma and thymic carcinoma).
Professor Popat qualified in 1994 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals with triple distinction and was awarded a PhD in Molecular Genetics in 2002, undertaking a postdoctoral Clinician Scientist Fellowship and a HEFCE Clinical Senior Lectureship thereafter. He has been awarded nationally and internationally competitive prizes for his research, in addition to four research fellowships. His research interests include
the complexities of genetic profiling in cancer, as well as developing novel drug treatments through clinical trials.
He also holds several national and international roles. Nationally, Professor Popat Chairs the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Steering Committee, is Co-Director for the NIHR London South Clinical Research Network Cancer Division, the NIHR Lung Cancer National Specialty Lead and is past Sub-group Chair of the NCRI Lung Group. Internationally, he sits on the Foundation Council of the European Thoracic Oncology Platform (ETOP) and is active in the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) where he has co-authored European Clinical Practice Guidelines for Small Cell Lung Cancer, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, and Mesothelioma. His research collaborations with industry have led to licensing of several drugs globally, leading to implementation in International treatment guidelines and NHS funding approvals.
Professor Popat is often an invited Clinical Expert to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and sits on several committees overseeing the safety and governance for ongoing UK and international clinical trials. Sanjay is a strong advocate for patient education and support and is clinical advisor to several patient-facing cancer charities.
Mr Eric Lim
Consultant Thoracic Surgeon
Royal Brompton Hospital
Biography
Mr Eric Lim studied at the University of Sheffield and trained in cardiothoracic surgery in Cambridge and London.
He was the recipient of an MRC scholarship and was awarded an MSc in Biostatistics and an MD for surgical research.
He joined the Royal Brompton Hospital in 2007 as a consultant thoracic surgeon and leads the hospital’s Cancer Research Consortia.
Mr Lim specialises in thoracic surgical diseases, with a strong focus on patient care, aspiring to make thoracic surgery that causes the least amount of pain and disruption to the patient’s life as possible.
Holding leadership positions both nationally and internationally places Mr Lim at the forefront of his speciality, providing balanced and authoritative opinions on patient and clinical care for patients with advanced lung cancer, where surgery is being considered or when patients who have been declined surgery because they were considered too high risk.

Dr Fiona McDonald

Biography
Dr Fiona McDonald gained a first-class BA (Hons) medical sciences degree from Cambridge University in 1994, and in 1997 qualified from Barts and The London School of Medicine. She then completed her general medical training at St. Mary’s Hospital before specialising in oncology at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr McDonald’s work and research has been recognised and awarded throughout her career. She was awarded the Frank Doyle Medal from the Royal College of Radiologists in 2002, and her research degree at The Institute of Cancer Research gained her the president's prize. This award recognised her research into individualised image-guided adaptive radiotherapy techniques for lung and bladder tumours, completed between 2008 and 2012, including implementation of lung stereotactic radiotherapy for early stage and oligometastatic lung tumours in 2009.
In 2012, Dr McDonald was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden, where her research aims to improve outcomes by developing individualised approaches to lung radiotherapy through integration of novel functional imaging and targeted biological agents with advanced radiotherapy technologies. These techniques include stereotactic/CyberKnife radiotherapy,
intensity-modulated and image-guided adaptive radiotherapy.
The Thoracic Radiotherapy Group at the ICR was set up by Dr McDonald in October 2015.
Dr Carole Ridge
Consultant Radiologist
Royal Brompton Hospital
Biography
Dr Ridge is a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital where she specialises in cardiothoracic imaging and tumour diagnosis and treatment and is the physician chair for the international radiology safety body, Image Wisely.
She has research interests in cardiovascular imaging and cancer diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, Dr Ridge has contributed considerably to over 70 peer-reviewed publications, review articles, books and case reports.
Dr Ridge has completed fellowships in interventional oncology and body imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre and cardiothoracic imaging at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in New York and Boston.
Since 2009, she has held numerous academic appointments in America, the UK and Ireland including associate professor, lecturer, mentor and tutor positions at UCD School of Medicine and Health Science, Harvard Medical School, Weill Cornell Medical Centre, and Imperial College.
